Youth-Led Stewardship in Action: Grounding Waters Makes a Big Impact

PIC Grantee Blueprint Foundation

Last year, the Blueprint Foundation’s Grounding Waters program engaged more than 700 people through youth-led environmental stewardship – thanks in part to support from an EMSWCD Partners in Conservation grant. Black-identified youth restored more than five acres of Portland’s habitat near Johnson Creek, led Salmon Watch field trips on the Sandy River, and taught nearly 200 younger students about local ecosystems.

This work does more than heal the land – it empowers youth by providing meaningful hands-on experience in conservation, science, and community leadership.  These young leaders build confidence, deepen community roots, and create a powerful sense of ownership in the places they live. They are creating lasting change in their neighborhoods and inspiring the next generation. It’s a great example of what happens when young people lead, and what’s possible through meaningful partnerships.
