Partners in Conservation Grants

Our Partners in Conservation (PIC) grants support community projects that focus on:

  • Soil health and water quality
  • Reducing and addressing climate impacts
  • Sustainable agriculture and community gardens
  • Outdoor and garden education programs
  • Fish and wildlife habitat restoration

These grants also increase conservation benefits for communities experiencing disparities in environmental health, environmental education and natural amenities.

What Can We Fund?

Funding is available for activities, projects and programs that include:

  • Creating or maintaining school and community gardens, and supporting sustainable and culturally appropriate agriculture practices
  • Preparing youth and adults for careers or education in natural resources, agriculture, nature education or other nature-related fields
  • On-the-ground habitat restoration or conservation projects
  • Hands-on learning about healthy soil and water, wildlife habitat, and climate change for youth and/or adults
  • Environmental health projects in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other underserved and/or environmentally impacted communities, as well as low-income communities
  • Planning or engineering of a complex conservation project

Eligible Organizations

Nonprofits, local governments, schools and educational institutions, and Native American tribes are all eligible for our grants.

Project Scope

Projects may request between $10,000 and $70,000 and span up to two years. They must show a clear public benefit and be located within the EMSWCD service area (all of Multnomah County east of the Willamette River) or serve its residents.

How We Choose Grantees

Our board-appointed Grant Review Committee reviews all applications and selects those that strongly meet our grant program goals. The committee includes individuals from the community with diverse professional backgrounds, lived experience and relevant expertise. The committee makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors. The board has final approval.
