Bring home native plants.

Learn how our Native Plant Sale works, from placing your order to picking up your new native plants.

We offer a rotating selection of native trees and shrubs that support local wildlife. Groundcovers and perennials aren’t included but can be found at local nurseries listed in our Local Sources of Native Plants (PDF) guide.

How the Native Plant Sale Works

The plant sale is conducted entirely online through a seasonal store that opens once a year.

When the store goes live, you can browse the available species, select quantities, and complete your purchase through a simple checkout process.

Each plant is priced affordably, typically around $5.

We request that customers order no more than 10 of each species total, even if you place multiple orders. We have limited quantities of plants, and all customers deserve a fair chance to get the plants they need.

If you are working on a larger restoration project or need 25–50 or more plants, wholesale ordering options are available. Please reach out to us directly for more information.

Picking Up Your Plants

All plant orders must be picked up in person on a designated Pick-Up Day at our North Portland office.

Due to limited storage and staffing capacity, this is the only time we’re able to distribute plants. In the weeks leading up to the event, we provide full logistical details, including the address, hours, accessibility accommodations, and what to expect when you arrive.

If you cannot attend, you’re welcome to send a friend or neighbor to pick up your order. Unfortunately, we are unable to hold or store plants beyond the scheduled day, and any unclaimed orders are donated to local habitat restoration projects

How to Care for Your New Native Plants

Your new plants will arrive bare-root and dormant.

Bare-root plants are plants that have been grown in the ground and had the soil removed from their roots prior to shipping. They may appear to be sticks with roots, but they are still healthy, vital plants ready to start leafing out in the spring!

Plant them as soon as possible. It is best to plant them the same day that you pick them up, or within a few days. If delayed, keep roots moist and stored in a cool, dark place — not in standing water.

These natives do not need frost protection, but make sure any surrounding soil or sawdust is thawed before planting.
