East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District (EMSWCD) has an exciting opportunity for an innovative, resourceful new Executive Director to continue to grow the current culture of trust and accountability while prioritizing the organization’s mission to help people care for land and water.

As the leader of EMSWCD, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall implementation of the strategic plan initiatives and annual goals. Prioritizing open and collaborative leadership with the elected board of directors and staff is key. A focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in conservation work, as well as a deep commitment to responding to the impacts of climate change on water, land and people are also key elements of success for this position.

Do you know students pursuing careers as nursery or landscape professionals? The Oregon Nurseries Foundation (ONF) awards scholarships to students preparing for a career in ornamental horticulture and related fields. In all, 20 different awards are sponsored by individuals and Oregon Association of Nurseries chapters as a way to support the next generation of green industry professionals. Over $20,000 is awarded each year in scholarships.

Here are some resources and information on staying cool through this hot weather! This post will be updated with any new information and resources as they become available.

• If you need a place to cool off, Multnomah County has an interactive map of cooling centers, libraries, and water/recreation locations you can cool off at here. You can also find any updated information on cooling centers, misting stations and more at their Help for when it’s hot page, and information in additional languages.
• Cooling centers are open 24 hours a day. Current locations include:
  • Charles Jordan Community Center: 9009 N. Foss Ave., Portland
  • East Portland Community Center: 740 S.E. 106th Ave., Portland
  • Portland Building: 1120 S.W. 5th Ave., Portland
  • Sunrise Center: 18901 E. Burnside, Portland

• In addition, a daytime cooling center is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM in Old Town at 435 N.W. Glisan St., Portland.
• Several Multnomah County libraries are open until 9:00 PM through to Saturday the 30^th. Find Multnomah Library locations here.
• For transportation needs, TriMet will not turn anyone away if they cannot pay fares during the hot weather. TriMet asks riders to let their driver know they are headed to a cool place.

Aquí en Oregon, tenemos cientos de especies de abejas nativas, junto con numerosas moscas, escarabajos, polillas, y mariposas que polinizan nuestras flores y cosechas. Tenemos también un ejército de insectos benéficos, incluyendo escarabajos, moscas, avispas, chinches de alas de encajes que proveen control de plagas gratuito al atacar las plagas que viven en nuestros jardines y nuestras granjas.

En este taller, aprenderá sobre los diferentes tipos de insectos benéficos en Oregon, y usted descubrirá plantas y prácticas de manejo que proveen alimentos, agua, y refugio para atraer insectos y sostenerlos todo el año.
