Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba) Control Project
FREE CONTROL IS AVAILABLE TO ALL LANDOWNERS EAST OF THE SANDY RIVER!

East Multnomah SWCD is beginning a project to control the advance and limit the distribution of the devastating invasive vine Clematis vitalba. The removal of this vine can be very labor intensive and we hope that landowners will take advantage of our free services.
Our project is focusing on the treatment of this species where it poses a threat of infesting the natural areas and forests of the Columbia Gorge and the Sandy River Basin. Our noxious weed management department began preliminary mapping last year along target roadsides. Our outreach campaign is now underway. We have mailed flyers and permission forms to all landowners near a mapped old man's beard location. We are asking for your permission now so our staff and work crews can begin control work this summer. Our goal is to begin treatments on infested properties near the Columbia Gorge in 2010 and expand the project to include areas near the Sandy river in 2011.
If you have received a mailer about this project and have questions please contact Lucas Nipp at 503-935-5363 or Chris Aldassy at 503-935-5372.
