I wanted to enlarge this photo because first, as a child living in Wellington, Kansas, I lived through a dust storm in the thirties. In 1937, when I was eight, we went by bus to Oregon, and I saw western Kansas, where the soil was piled against the fences almost to the height of the fence. In 1942, when I went by bus through western Kansas, it looked very different, with crops in the fields.
